Arbre – An association for insertion of people by working
The association Arbres contacted Kadant PAAL to bale various office papers and cardboard collected from large administrations and service companies. The baler installed had to meet specific requirements:
- Suit to the existing warehouse where space is limited.
- Facilitate the loading of materials into the baler, although the use of a feed conveyor was not an option. The loading of bins and occasionally manual loading should be possible.
- Optimise the storage and transport of paper to make the work of this work integration company more profitable and secure.
A PACOMAT III-65 D channel baler with a special feeding hopper and a 37 kW power pack was the solution best suited to the need. It has been sized to be scalable over time according to the foreseeable increase in activity.

Julien Rouault tells us more about his organisation and his choice:
What is the aim of the association Arbres?
To take action against the exclusion of people who are very far from the labour market by promoting their integration through the creation of jobs in the field of recycling or any other suitable activity.
Our activity is centred on the collection of office paper and cardboard from companies and local authorities. It was within this framework that our association entered into its first public integration and professional qualification contract with Nantes Métropole (France) in 1991 for 12 integration positions.
Today, Arbres employ has 55 employees on back-to-work contracts and 12 permanent staff to organise the activity and provide socio-professional support for people at our site in Carquefou (Loire-Atlantique - France).
So you invested in baling equipment to optimise the transport of collected paper to the recovery channels?
Indeed, baling paper is technically complicated and the range of our old equipment did not allow us to carry out this operation. With our new PACOMAT baler from Kadant PAAL, we can bale the paper that makes up the bulk of the material we receive. This compaction saves us on transport costs and allows us to obtain a better selling price for the material.
Why did you choose a PAAL baler?
This very well know brand is present in large sorting centres. It is often referred to as the ‘Rolls Royce’ of the waste industry.
The support of a trained local Kadant PAAL technician is also a real plus for commissioning and follow-up.
What does your PACOMAT baler bring you today?
A high-performance, secure tool that will pay for itself through the additional margin generated by its operation.
Would you recommend other companies to work with Kadant PAAL?
Definitely yes, the commercial follow-up and the work of the design office perfectly meet our expectations. For the last five years that the machine has been in service, we have seen its robustness and operational quality on a daily basis.
